How Are High Performance Tires Different Than Other Tires?

High performance tires are becoming more popular for a number of reasons. Here are just a couple of the advantages of high performance tires:

  • High performance tires have improved traction and handling. They grip to the road better than standard tires, and this improves your braking distances and handling abilities.

  • High performance tires are less likely to overheat, which is a major cause of tire failure.

High performance tires offer a smoother, safer ride at higher speeds than standard tires, but they are often more expensive and (depending on circumstances) may not offer as much longevity as a lower speed-rated tire. Typically, they are purchased by those who like an aggressive drive or have a vehicle that recommends performance tires.  High performance tires are offered in a variety of tire treads — some are specialized for wet pavement while others are designed to be driven in any weather conditions.
