Have you ever wondered what it takes to be classified as an ASE Certified mechanic? ASE Certified mechanics are mechanics that go through voluntary training to meet the requirements established by the US National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.
What does a mechanic have to do to become ASE certified?
A mechanic has to demonstrate two years of work experience and pass at least one specialty test (for example, there are 40+ offered ranging anywhere from Auto Maintenance or Light Repair Certification to Engine Machinist Certification). Certification lasts for five years then the mechanic must renew.
Mechanics can also become an ASE Certified Master mechanic.
These mechanics take a series of subject tests to demonstrate their knowledge in an array of vehicle systems. This certification is also offered in a number of categories ranging from collision repair to engine machinist.
